MANILA, Philippines — April 21, 2026 — The House Committee on Justice has subpoenaed the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) and former senator Antonio Trillanes IV to testify in the ongoing impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte.

The hearing is set for April 22, with both parties expected to provide crucial evidence on allegations of unexplained wealth and suspicious financial transactions.

According to the committee, AMLC Chairman Eli Remolona Jr. has been directed to present original or certified true copies of covered and suspicious transaction reports involving Vice President Duterte and her husband, lawyer Manases Carpio. These documents are expected to shed light on financial activities flagged by regulators as potentially irregular.

Former senator Antonio Trillanes IV, a longtime critic of the Duterte family, has also been called to testify. His appearance is anticipated to be one of the most contentious moments in the hearings, as he is expected to provide testimony linking Duterte to alleged anomalies in the handling of confidential funds and other financial matters.

The impeachment proceedings began earlier this month, with previous hearings featuring testimonies from officials of the Commission on Audit, Bureau of Internal Revenue, National Bureau of Investigation, and the Office of the Ombudsman. The inclusion of AMLC and Trillanes signals a critical phase in the inquiry, as financial transparency and sworn testimonies could directly impact the strength of the case.

The House justice committee emphasized that the April 22 hearing will be pivotal in determining whether the impeachment complaint against Vice President Duterte gains momentum or falters due to insufficient evidence. Updates are expected to follow immediately after the testimonies, with possible recommendations for further investigation or escalation to the Senate.

This development underscores the seriousness of the impeachment proceedings, with financial records and sworn testimonies likely to shape the trajectory of the case and intensify political divisions across the country.
