MANILA, Philippines, Feb. 12, 2026 — About one in four Filipinos have experienced or witnessed cheating in a relationship, while nearly half believe trust can still be rebuilt afterward, according to the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey.

The Fourth Quarter 2025 Social Weather Survey, conducted from November 24 to 30, found that 27 percent of adult respondents reported encountering some form of infidelity, while 72 percent said they had not.

Among those who admitted to experiencing or witnessing cheating, 11 percent cited physical infidelity, defined as engaging in sexual or intimate activities or dating someone other than one’s partner. Another 11 percent reported emotional cheating, such as confiding personal problems to someone else or developing romantic feelings outside the relationship.

Other forms of cheating identified in the survey included cybercheating at 6 percent, object cheating at 6 percent, financial cheating at 5 percent, and micro-cheating at 4 percent. Eight percent of respondents said they experienced two or more types of cheating.

Despite these findings, 43 percent of Filipinos expressed belief that trust can still be restored after infidelity. Analysts say this reflects the resilience of many relationships and the cultural emphasis on reconciliation and family unity in the Philippines.

The survey results have sparked discussions online about the evolving definitions of cheating and the challenges couples face in maintaining trust in the digital age. Experts note that the inclusion of categories such as cybercheating and micro-cheating highlights how technology and social media have complicated modern relationships.

This nationwide survey underscores both the prevalence of infidelity and the optimism many Filipinos hold about rebuilding trust, offering a snapshot of how relationships are navigated in contemporary society.
