Sinimulan ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), sa ilalim ng Visayas Command, ang imbestigasyon sa ulat ng pagkakatuklas ng isang "underwater drone" na lumulutang sa karagatan ng Bohol.

Ayon kay AFP Public Affairs Office (PAO) Chief Colonel Xerxes Trinidad, nakikipagtulungan ang militar sa iba't ibang yunit, partikular sa Naval Forces Central, upang makakuha ng karagdagang impormasyon at matukoy ang detalye ng insidente. Ipinahayag niya ito noong Miyerkules, Enero 23, 2025.

"At this time, the AFP does not have the equipment in its possession for conducting a forensic investigation," ani Trinidad.

"We urge the individual who discovered the equipment and posted it on social media to immediately coordinate with the nearest military or naval units to ensure the proper handling and disposition of the item," dagdag niya.

Ngunit nilinaw ng mga awtoridad na ang pagkakatuklas ng isang underwater drone sa karagatan ng Bohol, na kamakailan ay kumalat sa social media, ay naganap noong Hulyo 27, 2024.

Ayon sa ulat mula sa Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) substation sa Bohol at Philippine National Police - Maritime Group (PNP-MG), ang "unidentified floating object" ay naiulat sa mga bayan ng Valencia at Garcia Hernandez.

"Per coordination with PCG-Bohol Substation, the unidentified floating object reported in Valencia and Garcia Hernandez, Bohol, was actually discovered last July 27, 2024, as per a viral Facebook post," ani PNP-MG Police Community Relations Section chief Police Captain Carina Oliquino.

Sa isang ulat ng SunStar noong Enero 15, kinumpirma ni Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad, tagapagsalita ng Philippine Navy para sa West Philippine Sea (WPS), ang pagkakarekober ng limang submersible drones mula sa iba't ibang bahagi ng bansa.

Ayon kay Trinidad, dalawang underwater drones ang natagpuan sa Calayan Island sa Babuyan Islands, isa sa Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte, isa pa sa Initao, Misamis Oriental, at ang pinakahuli sa San Pascual, Masbate. Ang lahat ng recovered unmanned underwater vehicles ay sumailalim sa forensic examination upang matukoy ang pinagmulan at layunin ng mga ito.

Pinaghihinalaan ng mga awtoridad na ang mga drone na ito ay posibleng nagmula sa China, subalit patuloy pa rin ang imbestigasyon upang makumpirma ang mga detalye.
