DPWH to reblock EDSA lanes, Dec. 28–Jan. 5

DECEMBER 26, 2025 — Sections of Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) will undergo major rehabilitation from December 28 to January 5, forcing motorists to brace for lane closures and rerouting during the holiday rush.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) confirmed that concrete reblocking and asphalt overlay will be carried out simultaneously on both northbound and southbound lanes. The work, part of a P6-billion rehabilitation program, began late on Christmas Eve and will continue around the clock until the early hours of January 5.

Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon said the project is designed to replace deteriorating pavement, improve drainage, and make EDSA more pedestrian-friendly.

“We are working 24/7 to ensure that the rehabilitation is completed on schedule,” Dizon assured.

The timing of the roadworks — during the holiday season — has raised questions among commuters and drivers. With thousands expected to travel for New Year festivities, the closures are likely to cause heavy congestion across Metro Manila.

On the other hand, road congestion during the holidays seems much more tolerable and reasonable rather than having to deal with this problem during regular work and school days.

The project is expected to last eight months in total, but this initial phase is seen as the most disruptive because of simultaneous reblocking and asphalt resurfacing.
