EDSA Kamuning shutdown alert — a midnight pause for a safer tomorrow

JANUARY 11, 2026 — Brace yourselves, mga kababayan! The EDSA Kamuning Southbound Busway Station in Quezon City will undergo a temporary full road closure on January 12 and 15, from 1 a.m. to 4 a.m. The Department of Transportation announced that the shutdown is necessary to mobilize and install steel components for a new pedestrian walkway, which will replace the old Kamuning overpass.

At first glance, the word “closure” may trigger annoyance — traffic, detours, delays. But here’s the silver lining: the work will be done in the wee hours of the morning, when traffic is at its lightest and most commuters are only just waking up to start their day.

By scheduling the construction during these hours, authorities are sparing the public from the worst of EDSA’s rush-hour gridlock.

Private motorists passing through the area are advised to take alternate routes, entering via Scout Borromeo Street and exiting through GMA Network Drive or Timog Avenue. While the entire Kamuning Southbound Busway Station will be closed, EDSA Busway buses will continue to run 24/7 — though they will not stop at Kamuning during the closure. Commuters using the EDSA Carousel are encouraged to board at nearby bus stops such as Quezon Avenue or Nepa Q-Mart.

This project is more than just another construction inconvenience. It’s about building a safer, more accessible walkway that addresses long-standing concerns about the old overpass’ steep design (it was, after all, dubbed “Mt. Kamuning” for a reason). By investing in infrastructure that prioritizes accessibility, the city is taking a step toward a more commuter-friendly future.

Yes, closures mean detours. Yes, they mean adjustments. But they also mean progress. And progress, even when it comes at 1 a.m., is worth the wait.

Temporary inconvenience is the price we pay for lasting improvement.
