PASAY, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation’s Cybercrime Division (NBI-CCD) arrested a married man in Antipolo City, Rizal, during an entrapment operation for allegedly leaking intimate videos of his former partner and using them to pressure her into sexual acts.

According to official reports, the complainant and the suspect had been in a relationship since June 2024. She later ended it after discovering his repeated infidelity and learning that he was already married. In December 2025, the complainant was informed by friends and colleagues that her private photos and videos were being shared online through multiple fake social media accounts. When confronted, the suspect initially denied involvement but eventually admitted to distributing the explicit content.

Investigators said the suspect continued his scheme by allegedly threatening to send the materials to the complainant’s parents. He reportedly used the images as leverage, coercing her to engage in sexual intercourse in exchange for not releasing them further. Distressed by the threats, the complainant sought help from the NBI-CCD, which led to the suspect’s capture in the entrapment operation.

The suspect has since undergone inquest proceedings before the Office of the Prosecutor in Antipolo City. He is facing multiple charges under the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 (R.A. 10175), including violations of the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004 (R.A. 9262), Section 4(a) of the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2009 (R.A. 9995), as well as Grave Coercion (Article 286) and Grave Threat (Article 282) under the Revised Penal Code.

NBI Acting Director Atty. Angelito DLP Magno underscored the agency’s firm stance against gender-based violence and online harassment. “The National Bureau of Investigation takes violence and abuse against women seriously and will employ its full resources and expertise to ensure that individuals who perpetrate violence, discrimination, or any form of abuse against women will face justice,” Magno said. “We remain unwavering in our commitment to safeguarding women's rights and holding digital offenders accountable.”

The NBI urged victims of similar sextortion or cyber-harassment cases to report incidents directly to the Cybercrime Division for swift action.

Sextortion Is Sexual Violence

Calling this a cybercrime understates the harm. Using leaked intimate videos to force sexual acts is not a digital prank or online misconduct. It is sexual violence, carried out through screens instead of fists. Coercion does not become less violent because it is typed, shared, or threatened in private messages.

The weapon here is shame, fear, and the threat of exposure. The effect is the same. Control over another person’s body and choices. Trauma does not ask how force was delivered.

Treating sextortion as a lesser offense protects abusers and minimizes victims. If consent is stripped away through threats, does the medium really matter, or is violence defined by the power it takes?
