PUERTO PRINCESA, Palawan — A healthy newborn baby girl was found abandoned at the Purok Hall of Purok Masagana, Barangay Bahile, Puerto Princesa City, early Tuesday morning, February 4, 2026. The infant’s parents remain unidentified, prompting concern and investigation from local authorities.

According to Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) and reports from Super Radyo, residents discovered the baby at around 7:00 a.m. and immediately informed a barangay official. The newborn was wrapped in a diaper and left alone inside the Purok Hall.

The BHWs promptly responded and brought the baby to Macarascas Satellite Clinic for immediate medical evaluation. Preliminary reports from the attending physician confirmed that the infant is only a few hours old and in stable condition. The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWD) is now assisting in the baby’s care alongside the clinic staff.

Authorities have launched an investigation to identify the individual(s) who left the baby and to determine the circumstances surrounding the abandonment. In the meantime, BHWs are appealing to the public for donations of infant milk to support the baby’s immediate nutritional needs.

This incident raises difficult questions about the societal pressures and circumstances that lead parents to abandon newborns. While interventions exist through hospitals and social services, cases like this underscore gaps in public awareness and access to support for vulnerable mothers. As the community rallies to provide care for the infant, one cannot help but ask: What measures can society implement to prevent newborn abandonment and ensure the safety of every child from the very start?
