TAYABAS, Quezon — A well-known restaurant in Barangay Dapdap, Tayabas City, Quezon, was engulfed in flames during the early hours of February 17, prompting a swift response from local authorities. The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Tayabas reported receiving the first emergency call at 2:38 a.m., and the fire was quickly elevated to a second alarm due to its rapid spread across approximately 500 square meters of the establishment.
Six fire trucks were dispatched to contain the blaze, which was declared fully extinguished by 3:35 a.m. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported, but property damage was estimated at around ₱175,000. Authorities are currently investigating the incident, with early assessments pointing to a possible electrical fault as the source of the fire.
The BFP Tayabas has strongly urged business owners and residents to ensure that electrical connections in their establishments and homes are properly maintained and installed. “Most electrical fires are preventable. Regular inspections and safety compliance can save lives and property,” emphasized a BFP spokesperson. This incident highlights a broader concern about fire safety and preparedness in commercial spaces. While electrical issues are a common risk, many businesses may overlook preventive measures until disaster strikes. In communities where fire hazards remain high, how can authorities, business owners, and the public work together to prevent avoidable tragedies? Are current safety regulations and enforcement sufficient to protect both people and property from such preventable disasters? (Larawan mula: 92.7 Brigada News FM Lucena / Facebook)
