BIÑAN, Laguna — In the early hours of Tuesday, a house on Dahlia Street was forcibly entered by five to six armed men wearing masks and hats, police reports confirmed. The family of four was asleep around 3 a.m. when the suspects broke in, smashing the gate and a window to gain access.

Authorities reported that the suspects stole approximately ₱25,000 in cash, cellphones, jewelry, and watches with an estimated total value of ₱100,000. The robbery reportedly lasted only eight minutes, after which the perpetrators fled in an SUV. Fortunately, no one in the household was physically harmed.

PltCol. Allan Reginald Basiya, head of Biñan City Police, stated that the suspects have been tentatively identified from the police rogues gallery and validation is ongoing. Officers are reviewing CCTV footage along the route taken by the SUV to track the culprits and strengthen their pursuit efforts.

While the case is under investigation, the incident underscores broader concerns about public safety in residential areas. Quick and coordinated robberies like this exploit both community vulnerabilities and limited immediate police presence. Although the family was unharmed, such events can create lasting fear and anxiety in neighborhoods, emphasizing the need for proactive security measures, community vigilance, and rapid police response. As crimes like this occur in residential areas, are current safety measures enough — or do communities need to rethink personal and neighborhood security?
