CABUYAO, Laguna — The Cabuyao officially signed the Memorandum of Agreement for the Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program on February 19, 2026, in collaboration with the DSWD Field Office IV-A and Pamantasan ng Cabuyao.
The initiative is designed to enhance the reading skills of young Cabuyeño learners while providing selected college students from low-income families with cash-for-work support to continue their education. By pairing literacy development with economic assistance, the program addresses two critical community needs: improving early education outcomes and supporting vulnerable youth in pursuing higher education.
City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) Cabuyao, under the leadership of Mayor Dennis Felipe Hain, emphasized the local government’s commitment to programs that promote the welfare of children and families. The initiative demonstrates a proactive approach in linking education, social services, and economic support within a single framework.
While the program promises immediate benefits, it also opens a broader discussion on sustainable development: how can local governments ensure that short-term support translates into lasting educational gains and improved life opportunities for both children and college students? Programs like these highlight the intersection of social responsibility and community empowerment. Can initiatives like “Tara, Basa!” create a long-term culture of learning and resilience — or are they a temporary lifeline for those in need? (Larawan mula sa: CSWD Cabuyao / Facebook)
