MANILA, Philippines — A Grade 9 student was hospitalized after being mauled by four men in front of the Barangay 520 hall in Sampaloc, Manila, in what officials said was triggered by jealousy.

The victim, identified only as “Alias Jonathan,” was walking alone past 12:30 p.m. on February 26 when two suspects suddenly ran toward him and began punching him repeatedly.

Video footage showed that even after the student fell to the ground, the attackers continued to beat him while several female students tried to intervene.

Barangay officials said the assault was linked to jealousy, though they did not elaborate on the circumstances.

Witnesses reported that a woman in a red shirt rushed to the scene, attempting to stop the commotion, but the attackers fled before authorities arrived.

The victim sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. His family has since appealed for justice, calling on police to apprehend the suspects and ensure accountability.

Police investigators confirmed that they are now pursuing leads to identify the four men involved in the attack. Statements from witnesses and video evidence are being reviewed to strengthen the case against the perpetrators.

The incident has sparked concern among residents and parents in the community, raising questions about the safety of minors in public spaces. Local officials have vowed to increase patrols and security measures around schools and barangay halls to prevent similar acts of violence.
