MARCH 2, 2026 — The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has confirmed it will directly supervise the destruction of nearly 200,000 recalled units of NAN OPTIPRO and NANKID OPTIPRO milk products, following Nestlé Philippines’ voluntary recall.

According to the FDA, 39 batches — equivalent to 330,004 units — manufactured at Nestlé’s Cabuyao plant were pulled out of circulation after production was halted last December 25, 2025. Of these, about 60 percent, or 199,414 units, are now scheduled for destruction. The agency stressed that “one hundred percent of all segregated recalled products are now under the control of Nestlé Philippines.”

The FDA also clarified that it will be physically present during the disposal process to ensure compliance with recall procedures.

In its statement, the agency said, “The FDA, through its regulatory and enforcement unit, will take part in the scheduled destruction of the recalled products to ensure proper compliance with recall procedures.”

Nestlé has reported that most consumer complaints have already been addressed, with continuous monitoring and follow-up. Still, the FDA urged the public to remain vigilant, advising families to check official advisories and report concerns through its eSumbong platform or via email.

This incident highlights the delicate balance between corporate responsibility and government oversight. On one hand, Nestlé acted swiftly with a precautionary recall. On the other, the FDA’s visible involvement in the destruction process signals a stronger commitment to consumer protection. For Filipino households, especially those who rely on formula milk daily, this is reassurance that someone is watching closely.

Are you satisfied with how this recall is being handled, and will you still entrust your babies’ health and wellness to companies that stumble on safety?
