MARCH 4, 2026 — The political rumor mill is buzzing again, and this time it’s about Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla and Senator Bam Aquino. Their recent sit-down, described as a “friendly but telling meeting,” has sparked speculation that a Remulla–Aquino tandem might be in the works for 2028.
Education was reportedly at the center of their discussion, a natural fit for Aquino who has long championed reforms in that sector.
Remulla has been open about his presidential ambitions, even saying he’d consider a run if endorsed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Meanwhile, Aquino, fresh from a political comeback in 2025, has reestablished himself as a national contender. Though he recently clarified he won’t run for vice president in 2028, his name continues to surface in conversations about higher office.
What makes this pairing intriguing is the contrast: Remulla, a Cabinet member under Marcos, and Aquino, a reformist voice from the opposition. In a polarized political landscape, could such a crossover be the formula to shake up the race?
Remulla himself acknowledged that Vice President Sara Duterte will be “hard to beat, almost impossible to beat” in 2028, but he also named Aquino as one of the few who could wage a credible fight.
For us, the question is less about political strategy and more about impact. Would a Remulla–Aquino alliance mean genuine collaboration on education and governance? With alliances forming this early, voters are left to wonder: Are we witnessing the birth of a partnership that could redefine the 2028 race?
Is this the kind of political crossover Filipinos are ready to embrace in 2028?
