SAN ANTONIO, Philippines — A carabao was seriously injured after being struck by an SVX Hyundai along Minanglo Street in Barangay Caisiwan, San Antonio, Nueva Ecija, near the boundary of Papaya, on Sunday.

The collision left the animal with a broken horn and unable to stand, according to a Facebook post by local page Magsipoc vlog. Photos and videos circulating online showed the carabao lying on the ground and the vehicle’s front end heavily damaged.

Witnesses said the impact was so strong that the carabao could no longer rise after the crash. “Hindi na umano makatayo ang kalabaw dahil sa lakas ng pagkakabangga,” the post read.

As of press time, authorities have not released an official report on whether any passengers or bystanders were injured.

Nueva Ecija, known as the “Rice Granary of the Philippines,” is also home to thousands of farm animals that often cross rural roads. Incidents involving livestock and vehicles are not uncommon in the province, raising concerns about road safety in agricultural communities.

Local residents have expressed alarm over the accident, calling for stricter traffic enforcement and better awareness among drivers traveling through areas where farm animals roam freely. Road safety advocates emphasize that collisions with large animals like carabaos can cause severe damage to vehicles and pose risks to both motorists and livestock.

The incident highlights the need for preventive measures, such as clearer road signage, designated crossing areas, and community education campaigns to reduce accidents in Nueva Ecija’s farming towns.
