ATOM STATEMENT: NO UNI-YELLOW The social media concoction of a united force between the admin and the tidal wave-organic color that emerged in 2022 has been consistently floated by certain sectors, especially online. Some bought into it, while others remain adamant in rejecting that idea. We feel that this remains a divisive way to further weaken the true opposition, especially those who do not have any plans to coalesce with either the Marcos camp or the Vice-President's camp. Although we do not really campaign for any candidate/s since the last time we did it with Cory Aquino's presidential campaign, one thing is certain: there won't be any "uni-yellow" ever for the August Twenty-One Movement (ATOM) at least, as far as our values are concerned. No tactical alliance whatsoever with any of those two"uniteam" camps. ATOM's yellow remains the same yellow that fought to bring down the Marcos dictatorship from 1983 to 1986. It is the same yellow that tried to welcome Ninoy Aquino on the day of August 21, 1983. It is the same yellow that is deeply rooted in the Filipino people's democratic values that mobilized from 1983 to 1986, and not rooted in a political party or a politician. But a yellow that will continue to embrace the ideals of those yellow ribbon-clad Filipinos who blocked tanks in 1986, who tried to give their children and their grandchildren a better future. The same yellow that will never stop seeking closure for the unfinished 1986 People Power Revolution. Fernando Lopez, Jr, was a former Vice-President of Ferdinand Marcos, Sr., before he declared Martial Law. Yes, Fernando, who belongs to the same family that owned ABS-CBN before martial law was declared. He helped fund Ferdinand Marcos, Sr's presidential campaign. But when Marcos declared martial law, he treacherously abolished the position of Fernando Lopez, and he was removed from office. ABS-CBN was padlocked for the first time in history by the Marcos dictatorship, together with other free media outlets. History has a lot of advice to tell and remind people of today, which we have completely ignored for the last forty years since the EDSA People Power. This is why we are in this mess. We share the same concerns as others as they look at 2028 with seriousness, but we also should not forget looking beyond 2028 with even deeper gravity. Why? In 1998, the great statesman Jovito Salonga said, “Let us not betray our people's faith in us. For if we do, a dictator will come again some day, in the name of national security and stability and do what Marcos did, since after all, Marcos and his associates here and abroad shall have demonstrated for all the world to see that crime pays.” Former President Duterte is a symptom of our failure to address the cause of the illness of our nation. And that is our failure to hold the Conjugal Dictatorship of Marcos and Romualdez accountable during the post-EDSA 1986. No one went to jail. "When you have an illness, you don't just treat the symptoms; you treat the cause of the symptoms." Volt Bohol, Atom President stressed.
