MANILA, Philippines — The legal counsel representing 18 former soldiers involved in the controversial “maleta delivery” allegations has spoken out amid growing public debate surrounding the issue.
In a recent statement on social media, Levito “Levi” Baligod reaffirmed the position of his clients, insisting that their claims—outlined in a joint affidavit—remain firm despite criticism and skepticism from various sectors.
Baligod, who serves as the legal representative of the group of former military personnel, emphasized that attempts to discredit their testimonies would not alter what he believes to be the truth behind the controversy.
“Pilit man tibagin ang katotohanan at nilalason ang madlang kaisipan, hindi mababago ang KATOTOHANAN,” Baligod wrote in his post.
The statement comes as public attention continues to focus on the alleged “maleta delivery” scheme, in which the 18 former soldiers claim they were involved in transporting large amounts of cash—reportedly placed in envelopes and suitcases—to certain political figures and officials between 2022 and 2025.
The allegations have fueled intense discussion online and in political circles, particularly after statements from government officials and other commentators questioned the credibility of the affidavit and the supporting evidence presented so far.
Despite the controversy, Baligod stressed that the former soldiers remain committed to standing by their sworn statements. According to him, the group is prepared to defend their accounts as investigations move forward.
Authorities have yet to release definitive findings regarding the claims, and the verification of the affidavit, photographs, and other materials reportedly submitted as evidence is still ongoing.
The unfolding controversy has also raised broader questions about accountability, transparency, and the reliability of whistleblower testimonies in politically sensitive cases.
As investigations continue and public scrutiny intensifies, many observers are left wondering: Will the alleged “maleta delivery” controversy lead to concrete evidence and accountability—or will it remain another unresolved political allegation in the country’s complex political landscape?
