MANILA, Philippines — The University of the Philippines (UP) has once again secured the top spot in the 2026 EduRank list of the Top 100 Universities in the Philippines, reaffirming its position as the country’s premier academic institution. The rankings, released on March 19, 2026, highlight UP’s continued dominance in research output, alumni influence, and academic prominence.

The University of the Philippines Diliman maintained its lead in the EduRank 2026 Top 100 Philippine Universities, a recognition that underscores its role as the nation’s flagship university. EduRank’s methodology analyzed more than 944,000 citations from 84,700 academic publications produced by 229 Philippine universities, alongside the professional impact of over 1,300 notable alumni.

UP Diliman ranked #312 in Asia and #1299 globally, with an acceptance rate of 12 percent. Founded in 1908, the institution has consistently been recognized for its contributions to national development, producing leaders in government, science, arts, and industry.

De La Salle University in Manila secured second place, followed by Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City, both of which continue to be part of the country’s “Big Four” universities. EduRank noted that while these private institutions remain strong contenders, state universities like UP continue to lead in terms of research productivity and global recognition.

The rankings also emphasized the growing prominence of provincial universities, which are steadily climbing the list due to increased research funding and international collaborations. This reflects the broader trend of decentralizing higher education excellence beyond Metro Manila.

In a statement, UP officials expressed pride in the achievement, saying, “This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our faculty, researchers, students, and alumni who continue to push the boundaries of knowledge and service to the nation.”

EduRank’s annual list has become a benchmark for students, parents, and policymakers in assessing the performance of higher education institutions. The 2026 results reaffirm UP’s role as a leader in shaping the intellectual and economic future of the Philippines, while also highlighting the competitive landscape among universities striving for global relevance.

With its continued success, UP remains not only the top choice for aspiring scholars but also a symbol of academic excellence and national pride.
