28 Abril 2025, Sorsogon, Pilipinas — Nakaranas ng ashfall ang ilang bayan sa lalawigan ng Sorsogon matapos ang phreatic eruption ng Bulkang Bulusan noong Lunes ng madaling araw.

Ayon sa Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), nangyari ang pagsabog bandang 4:36 a.m. at tumagal hanggang 5:00 a.m., kung saan lumikha ito ng isang bent plume na umabot sa taas na 4.5 kilometro at tinangay pa-kanluran at timog-kanluran.

Apektado ng ashfall ang mga barangay sa mga bayan ng Juban at Irosin, kabilang ang Barangays Puting Sapa, Buraburan, Guruyan, at Cogon. Itinaas ng PHIVOLCS ang alert level ng Bulkang Bulusan mula sa zero papuntang Alert Level 1, na nagpapahiwatig ng low-level unrest.

Nagpaalala ang ahensya, "Communities that experience ashfall must take all necessary precautions and use protective masks or wet cloth to prevent ash inhalation."

Kabuuang 118 indibidwal, o 33 pamilya, mula sa Barangay Cogon sa Irosin at Barangay Puting Sapa sa Juban ang inilikas patungo sa mga itinalagang evacuation center.

Kinumpirma ni Philippine National Police Region 5 Director Andre Dizon, "The evacuees were brought to evacuation centers to ensure their safety amid the ashfall."

Tiniyak naman ni Sorsogon Governor Boboy Hamor sa mga residente na may mga isinasagawang relief operations. "Face masks have been distributed to affected residents, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is providing initial relief assistance," ayon kay Hamor.

Patuloy din ang clearing operations sa mga apektadong lugar, sa tulong ng Bureau of Fire Protection at mga local government unit, upang alisin ang abo sa mga kalsada at pampublikong lugar.

Nagbabala ang PHIVOLCS sa mga posibleng panganib gaya ng pyroclastic density currents, ballistic projectiles, at rockfall sa loob ng apat na kilometrong Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) sa paligid ng bulkan.

Binigyang-diin din ng ahensya na "vigilance must be exercised in the two-kilometer Extended Danger Zone (EDZ) on the southeast sector due to the possible impacts of volcanic hazards."

Naglabas din ng abiso ang Department of Health (DOH) na nag-uudyok sa mga residente na magsuot ng proteksyon at maghanda ng emergency supplies.

"Ashfall can enter the lungs. If the community experiences ashfall, wear face masks, goggles, long-sleeves, and pants for protection," ayon sa paalala ng DOH.
