MANILA, Philippines — January 24, 2026 — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has arrested a Korean national considered one of the most wanted fugitives in a rape case, after intercepting him at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 late Friday night.

According to the PNP, operatives from the NAIA Police Station 1, in coordination with the Manila Police District–Women and Children Concern Section (MPD-WCCS), served the warrant of arrest against the suspect at around 11:46 p.m. on January 23. The warrant stemmed from Criminal Case No. R-MNL-26-00099-CR, which carried no bail recommendation. The suspect was immediately placed under the custody of the MPD-WCCS following the arrest.

PNP Acting Chief Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. emphasized that the arrest demonstrates the police force’s commitment to upholding the rule of law. “This arrest demonstrates that the PNP respects and enforces the authority of the courts at all times. Walang sinuman ang maaaring umiwas sa pananagutan,” Nartatez said. He added, “Our responsibility is to ensure that justice is pursued and that victims are given the protection they deserve. Patuloy naming gagampanan ang aming tungkulin para sa kaligtasan ng mamamayan.”

Authorities have yet to release the identity of the Korean national, but confirmed that he was on the list of most wanted individuals due to the severity of the charges filed against him. The PNP noted that the arrest was part of its intensified campaign to track down fugitives and ensure accountability for crimes committed within Philippine jurisdiction.

The arrest at NAIA Terminal 1 highlights the coordination between airport police and specialized units of the Manila Police District in apprehending high-profile suspects. Officials said the suspect will undergo further legal proceedings under Philippine courts, with the case expected to draw close monitoring given its international implications.

The incident has sparked discussions online, with netizens praising the swift action of authorities while also calling for stronger measures to prevent fugitives from entering or leaving the country undetected. The PNP reiterated that it will continue to strengthen its intelligence and monitoring systems at ports of entry to ensure that wanted individuals are apprehended before they can evade justice.

The arrest of the Korean national underscores the Philippines’ commitment to enforcing judicial orders and protecting victims of sexual violence. It also serves as a reminder that foreign nationals accused of crimes in the country are subject to Philippine law and will be held accountable.
