MANILA, Philippines — Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso is set to lead the groundbreaking ceremony for the 15-story Binondominium 2 tomorrow, February 24, on Delpan Street, Binondo, as part of his ongoing housing initiatives in the city. The project continues the local government’s efforts to provide affordable and decent housing for Manileños, in line with the city’s Minimum Basic Needs (MBN) program.
During his first term, Mayor Isko oversaw the completion of several housing projects, including Basecommunity, Tondominium 1 and 2, and Binondominium 1, as well as groundbreaking for other developments like San Lazaro Residences, San Sebastian Residences, and Pedro Gil Residences, despite the challenges of the pandemic. The new Binondominium complements other ongoing infrastructure projects, such as the construction of Ramon Magsaysay High School, the San Nicolas Health Center, and the modern College of Allied Health Sciences at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila.
City officials emphasize that these initiatives aim to address both housing shortages and broader social welfare concerns, providing safe, quality homes for families who otherwise struggle in Manila’s densely populated neighborhoods. However, the scale of urban migration and rising property costs continue to challenge the city’s ability to meet demand. As Manila continues its ambitious public housing drive, the question remains: Can large-scale housing projects like Binondominium 2 truly keep pace with the city’s growing population, or will urban development remain just out of reach for many families?
