The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has officially declared the end of La Niña, signaling a shift in weather patterns across the country.
MANILA, March 10, 2026 — PAGASA announced Tuesday that La Niña conditions, which brought above-normal rainfall and cooler temperatures in recent months, have dissipated. “La Niña has ended,” the agency said in its latest climate advisory, noting that neutral conditions are now prevailing in the tropical Pacific.
The weather bureau explained that while La Niña has concluded, residual effects may still linger in some areas, particularly in regions that experienced heavy rains and flooding earlier this year. PAGASA added that the transition to neutral conditions could pave the way for the possible development of El Niño later in 2026, depending on global climate indicators.
Farmers and local governments welcomed the announcement, as La Niña had posed challenges to agriculture and infrastructure due to persistent rains. However, experts cautioned that the end of La Niña does not mean the country is free from extreme weather events, urging communities to remain vigilant.
PAGASA said it will continue monitoring sea surface temperatures and atmospheric conditions to provide timely updates. The agency emphasized that preparedness remains crucial as the Philippines enters a period of climate variability.
PAGASA’s declaration of the end of La Niña marks a significant shift in the country’s climate outlook, offering relief from months of heavy rainfall but raising the possibility of new challenges ahead.
