VIP jail perks? DILG probes special treatment for Revilla

MARCH 12, 2026 — The Department of the Interior and Local Government is now digging into whispers that former senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. is living it up behind bars. Allegations of an air‑conditioned room and separation from other inmates at the Quezon City Jail have set tongues wagging, fueling outrage over whether justice bends for the powerful.
DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla quickly tried to cool things down, saying Revilla is in a “regular non‑air conditioned cell” but kept apart from his co‑accused due to personal animosities.
“They have to be separated just to keep things safe. Maybe that’s why (people) think there is special treatment,” Remulla explained.
Still, the optics sting. Ordinary detainees sweat it out in overcrowded, sweltering cells, while Revilla allegedly breathes easier. Whether true or not, the perception of privilege is enough to spark public fury.
And let’s not forget the backdrop: Revilla is facing graft and non‑bailable malversation charges over a ghost flood control project in Bulacan worth ₱92.8 million. The Sandiganbayan case already put him under the spotlight, and now his detention conditions are adding fuel to the fire.
This isn’t just about one man but about the system. If jail conditions differ based on status, what does that say about fairness in our country? Reports even suggest jail officials are hunting down sources who leaked details of Revilla’s supposed perks. Transparency, anyone?
We know the brutal reality of detention: cramped cells, unbearable heat, and poor sanitation. So when whispers of VIP treatment surface, it’s not just scandal — it’s salt on a wound.
If justice is supposed to be blind, why does it keep peeking when the powerful are involved?
