The Philippine National Police confirmed that the man accused of harassing a community in Camarines Sur, who was reported by an 11-year-old girl directly to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., is already detained at Tinangis Penal Farm in Camarines Sur.
The PNP issued the statement after the viral plea of the young girl, who sought help from President Marcos Jr. against alleged abuse and harassment in their community. The President responded with urgency, expressing anger and compassion in a public message, saying, “My dear Maureen, Your letter has reached me and brought me close to tears and made me very angry. I am sending policemen to you and your sisters to protect you and to find anyone who has hurt any of you.”
PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. clarified that the accused was already facing a rape case filed in 2023, which is currently under trial at the Regional Trial Court. He added that police records confirm the suspect is detained at Tinangis Penal Farm, and the concerns raised by the child involved harassment and community safety issues.
Following the President’s directive, the PNP deployed a specialized team from the Women and Children’s Protection Center (WCPC) to Camarines Sur to ensure the safety of the child and her community. Nartatez stressed, “Hindi natin palalampasin ito and we are now coordinating with the Department of the Interior and Local Government in the conduct of a thorough investigation.”
The case has drawn national attention, highlighting the importance of protecting vulnerable communities and ensuring accountability for local officials accused of abuse. President Marcos Jr. assured the child and her companions that measures would be taken to guarantee their safety and allow them to continue their education without fear of violence.
This incident underscores the government’s commitment to act swiftly on reports of abuse, especially when children are involved, and reinforces the role of both the PNP and the judiciary in safeguarding community welfare.
