QUEZON CITY, Philippines — Authorities in Quezon City intercepted an oil tanker allegedly transferring around 20,000 liters of diesel into a residential property in Barangay Sacred Heart, raising serious safety and legal concerns. The discovery has sparked investigations into possible violations of fuel storage regulations and public safety laws.

On Sunday morning, officials flagged an oil tanker parked along Scout Castor Street in Barangay Sacred Heart after residents reported suspicious activity involving the transfer of diesel fuel. Witnesses said the tanker was first spotted earlier in the day but returned at night to continue unloading fuel into a large tank inside a private home.

According to residents, the operation appeared to be deliberate and persistent despite attempts by barangay security officers to stop it. One resident told reporters, “Dinidischarge nila ang langis dito sa isang fuel tank sa loob ng bahay. Pinagpatuloy pa nila ang discharge kahit na sinusubukan ng BPSO na pigilan sila.”

Authorities are now investigating how such a large volume of diesel—estimated at 20,000 liters—was being stored in a residential area without proper permits. Fuel storage of this magnitude poses significant risks, including fire hazards, toxic fumes, and potential explosions.

The Department of Energy and local government units are expected to coordinate on enforcement actions, as storing industrial quantities of fuel in homes is strictly prohibited under safety regulations.

The incident has also raised questions about whether the diesel was intended for illegal resale or other unauthorized distribution. Investigators are looking into possible links to fuel smuggling operations, as the transfer method suggests an attempt to conceal the activity from authorities.

Barangay officials have assured residents that measures are being taken to secure the area and prevent further risks. The tanker has been flagged, and the fuel transfer halted pending further inspection. Local authorities emphasized that public safety remains the priority, urging residents to report similar suspicious activities immediately.

This case highlights the dangers of clandestine fuel storage in densely populated communities. With Quezon City being one of the most urbanized areas in Metro Manila, the presence of such hazardous materials in residential zones underscores the need for stricter monitoring and enforcement.

As investigations continue, residents of Barangay Sacred Heart await clarity on how the operation was allowed to proceed and what penalties will be imposed on those responsible. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to fuel safety regulations to protect lives and property.
