MIDSALIP, Zamboanga del Sur, April 29, 2026 — A 71-year-old man who had been missing for several days was found dead near his wife’s grave in Midsalip, Zamboanga del Sur, bringing a tragic end to a search that gripped the local community. Authorities confirmed that the cause of death was a heart attack linked to chronic hypertension.
The victim, identified as a 71-year-old resident of Barangay Matalang, was reported missing on April 23 after failing to return home. His body was discovered on the morning of April 27, just a few meters away from the tomb of his late wife, whom he was believed to have visited before the incident.
According to the Midsalip Regional Health Unit, medical examination revealed that the man suffered a myocardial infarction, commonly known as a heart attack, secondary to chronic hypertension. “The medical results indicated myocardial infarction secondary to chronic hypertension,” officials stated, confirming that no foul play was involved.
Family members had raised the alarm after he failed to return home, sparking a five-day search by relatives and neighbors. The discovery of his body near his wife’s grave added a poignant dimension to the tragedy, with many locals interpreting it as a final act of devotion.
