LOS ANGELES — Manny Pacquiao has filed a malicious prosecution lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court against a former waiter-turned-actor and several law firms over a long-running legal battle tied to his 2015 megafight with Floyd Mayweather Jr.
The complaint, filed on February 24, names Gabriel Rueda — also known as Gabriel Salvador Amman Khan, Khan — along with attorney Law Office, Pierce Bainbridge Beck Price & Hecht LLP, and international law firm Withers Bergman LLP. Pac of pursuing “knowquiao accuses them” for more than eight years of false allegations, claiming he owed Rueda a finder’s fee for arranging the richest fight in boxing history.
Rueda first sued Pacquiao in 2016, alleging he was entitled to $8.6 million for introducing Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, to Mayweather’s camp, a claim Pacquiao has consistently denied.
The case dragged on for years before being dismissed, prompting Pacquiao to seek compensatory and punitive damages for what he describes as malicious prosecution.
Pacquiao’s legal team argues that the prolonged litigation not only damaged his reputation but also cost him millions in legal fees and emotional distress.
The lawsuit underscores the lingering fallout from the Mayweather-Pacquiao bout, which generated more than $600 million in revenue and remains the highest-grossing fight in boxing history.
This latest move by Pacquiao highlights his determination to clear his name and hold accountable those he believes exploited his career for personal gain.
