NOBYEMBRE 19, 2025 — Mahigit 46 porsyento ng mga produktong agrikultural ng Pilipinas na ipinapadala sa Estados Unidos ay hindi na papatawan ng taripa matapos maglabas ng executive order si US President Donald Trump. Ang kautusan ay nagtatakda na ang mga produktong hindi itinatanim o ginagawa sa Amerika ay exempted sa reciprocal tariff, kabilang ang pangunahing agri exports ng bansa na umabot sa higit $1 bilyon noong 2024.

Kabilang sa mga produktong nakaligtas sa buwis ay coconut copra oil, coconut water, desiccated coconut, fruit juices, processed pineapples, confectionery goods, fresh at processed bananas, tuna fillets, at dried fruits. Ang semiconductor exports ay dati nang exempted, habang ang natitirang bahagi ng mga produkto ay mananatiling may 19 porsyentong taripa.

“It’s good news ... this is good for the country, it’s good for the farmers,” pahayag ni Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs Sec. Frederick Go.

Ayon naman kay Trade Secretary Cristina Roque, malaking ginhawa ang dulot ng exemption para sa exporters at sa lokal na industriya ng agrikultura. 

“The exemption helps protect livelihoods, preserve jobs across our agricultural value chain, and creates opportunities for communities that rely heavily on exports,” aniya. 

(Nakakatulong ang exemption na protektahan ang kabuhayan, mapanatili ang trabaho sa buong agricultural value chain, at lumikha ng oportunidad para sa mga komunidad na umaasa sa exports.)

Dagdag pa ni Usec. Ceferino Rodolfo ng Board of Investments, nakatutok ang pamahalaan sa pagpapalakas ng industriya ng niyog bilang pinakamalaking agri export ng bansa. 

“We are working closely with the Department of Agriculture, in particular, for example, for coconut products. We have the coconut development industry fund that we are fully utilizing,” wika niya.

Bagama’t hindi pa nakikita ang posibilidad ng free trade agreement sa US sa malapit na panahon, binuksan naman ng gobyerno ang pinto para sa kasunduan sa European Union, United Arab Emirates, Canada, at Chile.
