Christmas weather looks calm as Pagasa rules out tropical cyclones

MANILA — Filipinos are likely to enjoy a cyclone-free Christmas Day, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Pagasa weather specialist Daniel James Villamil said the agency has not monitored any low-pressure area entering the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) in the coming days. “Filipinos are likely to experience fair weather on Christmas Day, as no tropical cyclone has been spotted,” Villamil noted.

Instead, the easterlies will prevail over Metro Manila and most of the country, bringing partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. The same weather system, which carries humid and warm temperatures, is expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to the Bicol Region and Quezon Province.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon (amihan) will affect Cagayan, Isabela, and Aurora, where cloudy skies with light rains are likely within 24 hours. Amihan conditions will also be felt in the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and parts of Central Luzon, with cooler temperatures and occasional light rains.

Pagasa’s Special Weather Outlook for Christmas 2025 further indicated that from December 24 to 25, most parts of the country will experience generally fair weather, with only localized rain showers expected in the afternoon or evening.

The forecast comes as millions of Filipinos prepare for Christmas festivities, including Simbang Gabi, family gatherings, and travel across provinces. Authorities reminded the public to remain cautious of sudden localized thunderstorms despite the absence of cyclones.
