Remulla exposes P30M BFP kickback scheme — corruption’s grip knows no limits!

JANUARY 12, 2026 — Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla has revealed a P30 million kickback scheme involving two senior Bureau of Fire Protection officials, dismissed from their posts after allegedly inflating the cost of fire extinguishers and pocketing millions for a condominium project.

When the guardians of fire safety themselves ignite a blaze of corruption, the public is left asking: How deep does the rot go? A P30 million kickback scheme at the Bureau of Fire Protection isn’t just about overpriced extinguishers — it’s about trust going up in smoke.

Remulla revealed, “They sell them at three times the original cost.”

Imagine that — life-saving equipment inflated to line pockets.

And it doesn’t stop there. Reports say inspectors force business owners to hire “preferred” contractors for sprinkler installations, pocketing commissions in the process.

This is extortion disguised as regulation!

Remember when Remulla admitted, “The BFP is the most corrupt attached agency of the DILG” just a few days ago? That’s a staggering indictment.

Now, body-worn cameras will be required for inspectors, a move meant to curb abuse. But will cameras alone stop the rot? Or will corrupt officials simply find new ways to game the system?

Trust up in smoke

Why does it feel like every government office has its own version of this racket? From overpriced supplies to forced commissions, corruption has become so normalized that Filipinos barely flinch anymore. But should we just accept this as the status quo?

Every peso stolen is a peso denied to public safety, education, healthcare, and infrastructure. Every scheme erodes trust in institutions meant to serve us. And when corruption infects agencies like the BFP, it’s not just money lost but lives put at risk.

Enough is enough! If corruption is the fire, then accountability must be the extinguisher.

How many more scandals must erupt before Filipinos finally say, “Tama na, sobra na”?
