Multi-purpose hall in Bacoor cost nearly ₱10 million?

BACOOR, Cavite — Residents and passersby are raising eyebrows over the construction of a “Multi-Purpose Hall with Solar” at the Daang Hari intersection in Bacoor, Cavite, which carries a staggering price tag of nearly ₱9.8 million, according to the project billboard from the Commission on Audit (COA). The project, commissioned to RKF Builders, was started on December 19, 2024, with an expected completion date of August 16, 2025.

However, careful observers have noted that the structure resembles a simple pigeon coop or a basic waiting shed more than a grand public facility. Stacks of cement bags and construction materials remain scattered beside the site, leading locals to question the nearly ₱10-million expenditure for what appears to be a relatively small hall.

Some critics have joked about the high cost, asking whether the columns were made of gold or if the solar panels contain secret high-tech fiber connections. While others, with a touch of humor, acknowledge that at least “something was built.”

The controversy highlights broader issues in government infrastructure projects: transparency, proper cost assessment, and public accountability. With COA monitoring, questions remain whether the cost reflects genuine construction needs, inflated pricing, or design miscalculations. Citizens are increasingly aware of the value of public funds and the need to scrutinize large expenditures, even for seemingly minor structures. This situation raises a fundamental question: How can government projects ensure that taxpayers’ money is spent efficiently without compromising public trust?
