Authorities have confirmed that the car agent linked to the deaths of Police Senior Master Sergeant Diane Marie Mollenido and her son John Ysmael is now in police custody, along with her husband, a dismissed police officer. The arrest marks a major development in the high-profile case that has gripped Central Luzon.
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced that a car agent identified as a person of interest in the killings of Police Senior Master Sergeant Diane Marie Mollenido and her eight-year-old son, John Ysmael, has been apprehended in Quezon City.
National Capital Region Police Office chief Police Major General Anthony Aberin confirmed that the car agent and her husband, a dismissed police officer, were taken into custody early Saturday morning.
Mollenido, 38, was found dead on January 24 in a creek along the Pulilan–Baliuag Bypass Road in Bulacan with a gunshot wound to the head. Six days later, her son’s body was discovered at a calamansi farm in Victoria, Tarlac. His father, Police Senior Master Sergeant John Mollenido, positively identified the remains. Autopsy results revealed that the boy died of asphyxia by suffocation.
Investigators said Diane and her son were last seen on January 16 and were officially reported missing on January 19. They were supposed to meet the car agent in connection with a vehicle transaction. Police later discovered bloodstains inside the agent’s house in Quezon City, which strengthened suspicions of her involvement. Authorities also revealed that the agent was a godchild of Diane Marie, which explained the trust placed in her during the car sale.
PNP officials emphasized that the arrest is a significant step toward justice. “We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident. Ang buong PNP ay nakikiramay sa pamilya ng biktima sa panahong ito ng matinding kalungkutan. We are committed to ensuring a thorough investigation to uncover all the facts surrounding her disappearance and death,” said PNP acting chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr.
The case has drawn national attention due to its brutal nature and the victims’ ties to law enforcement. The PNP assured the public that all resources are being mobilized to resolve the case and hold those responsible accountable.
The arrest of the car agent and her husband is expected to shed light on the motive and circumstances behind the killings, as investigators continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses.
