FEBRUARY 1, 2026 — The scandal rocking the police force just got uglier. Authorities have arrested Police Senior Master Sergeant John Mollenido, husband of slain cop Diane Marie Mollenido, tagging him as prime suspect in the brutal killings of his wife and their young son. From protector to prisoner, the case now exposes a betrayal that cuts deep into the very institution sworn to keep us safe.

On January 24, Diane Marie, herself a Police Master Sergeant, was found dead in a creek in Pulilan, Bulacan, with a gunshot wound to the head. Just five days later, their son John Ysmael was discovered lifeless in a calamansi farm in Victoria, Tarlac, suffocated to death. Two lives, brutally taken. And now, the man who should have been their protector is the one facing charges.

The Quezon City Police District confirmed that Mollenido will face charges alongside three suspects already arrested in Novaliches. All four are set to undergo inquest proceedings. Before his arrest, Mollenido refused to comment on a car agent’s statement linking him to the crime, though he had earlier claimed he was willing to cooperate.

But here’s the chilling twist: when he identified his son’s body, Mollenido was quoted saying, “HINDI KO MATANGGAP EH, HOPING PA NGA AKO NA BUHAY ‘YUNG ANAK KO EH.”

(I cannot accept it, I was even hoping my child was still alive.)

That statement now hangs heavy in the air, given the charges he faces today.

Investigators recovered Diane’s cellphone and P100,000 cash from the suspects’ home, who happen to be live-in partners. Adding to the damning evidence, an SUV believed to have transported the victims’ bodies was found in Pampanga. Each detail only fuels the suspicion that this was no random act of violence, but a calculated betrayal.

How do we feel knowing that the uniform can be worn by someone capable of such horror? What kind of husband kills his wife? What kind of father suffocates his own child? And worse — what kind of policeman, sworn to protect, ends up accused of the most heinous betrayal of all?
