The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed that no Filipino casualties were reported in the deadly mosque bombing in Islamabad, Pakistan, which killed at least 31 people and injured nearly 170 others. The Philippine Embassy is closely monitoring the situation and remains ready to assist the Filipino community in the country.
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — The DFA announced on Friday that no Filipino nationals were among those killed or injured in the suicide bombing that struck a Shi’ite Muslim mosque in Pakistan’s capital during Friday prayers.
The attack, described as the deadliest suicide bombing in Islamabad in more than a decade, sent shockwaves across the region as authorities scrambled to secure the area and investigate the incident.
“At this time, there have been no reports of Filipino nationals among those killed or injured,” the DFA said in a statement.
According to reports, the attacker was stopped at the gate of the mosque before detonating the explosive device, causing widespread devastation among worshippers gathered for prayers. The blast left dozens dead and scores wounded, overwhelming hospitals and emergency responders. Pakistani authorities have since heightened security measures in the capital to prevent further attacks.
The DFA emphasized that the Philippine Embassy in Islamabad is actively coordinating with local authorities and remains in close contact with the Filipino community in Pakistan. The embassy assured that it is prepared to extend all necessary assistance to any Filipino who may be affected by the tragic incident.
Current government data estimates that there are around 3,100 Filipinos residing in Pakistan, many of whom are concentrated in major cities.
The bombing has drawn condemnation from international communities, with calls for stronger security measures to protect religious minorities and prevent extremist violence. For Filipinos in Pakistan, the DFA urged vigilance and advised them to remain in touch with the embassy for updates and emergency support.
This latest attack underscores the persistent threat of terrorism in the region, particularly targeting places of worship. While no Filipino lives were lost in the incident, the DFA reiterated its commitment to safeguarding overseas Filipinos and ensuring their welfare amid crises abroad.
