NAVOTAS CITY, Philippines, Feb. 9, 2026 — A taho vendor was brutally stabbed to death in Barangay Tanza 1, Navotas, on Saturday morning, sparking outrage among residents and netizens who knew him as “Tatay Danny.” The incident occurred along Champaca Street between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m., according to eyewitness accounts.
Police reports and witness testimonies revealed that the suspect was another taho vendor in the area, with the attack allegedly stemming from a long-standing dispute over selling routes. AJ Senson, one of the witnesses interviewed by Balita, said, “Matagal nang alitan sa ruta ng pagtataho ang posibleng dahilan ng pananaksak,” noting that the rivalry had been brewing for some time.
Residents were shocked to find Tatay Danny lying bloodied on the street, with multiple stab wounds. The victim was well-known in the community, often seen selling taho to locals and schoolchildren. His sudden death has prompted calls for tighter monitoring of street vendors and quicker police response to disputes that could escalate into violence.
Authorities are now investigating the case, with police pursuing leads to locate and apprehend the suspect. The Navotas City Police have urged witnesses to come forward to strengthen the case and ensure justice for the slain vendor.
The tragic incident highlights the vulnerability of informal workers who often face competition and territorial disputes in their daily struggle to earn a living. For many residents, Tatay Danny’s death is not just a crime statistic but a painful loss of a familiar figure in their community.
