MANILA, Philippines, Feb. 11, 2026 — A male student died after he allegedly jumped from the Fernando Poe Jr. Avenue Station of the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) near the corner of Muñoz on Wednesday morning.
LRT security personnel initially identified the victim as a student of Philippine Christian University (PCU) after an identification card was found on him. He was reportedly wearing a school uniform, according to a report by RH 5 Val Gonzales.
Authorities said the victim fell from an estimated height of around three stories. The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) later confirmed that the victim’s body was dragged a long distance by a vehicle after landing on the EDSA northbound lane, along the route toward Balintawak and Monumento.
For a time, witnesses said the victim was still moving. First responders from a rescue team of a news outlet arrived and attempted to check his condition and revive him. However, by 10:57 a.m., no further revival attempts were made as the victim had stopped moving. The first responder at the scene, however, declined to officially declare him dead.
Four ambulances responded to the incident, including one from the news outlet’s rescue team and another from the MMDA Road Emergency Group.
A witness, jeepney caller Maria Theresa Vijar, said she initially thought a piece of clothing had been thrown from the LRT station, but later realized it was a person.
The victim’s father dropped to his knees in grief after seeing his son lying lifeless. The mother later arrived at the scene and reportedly fainted after learning what happened. She was said to be a lawyer.
In an emotional account, the father said his son was about to graduate and had shown no signs of academic problems.
“Graduating na siya ngayon. Walang problema sa grades ng anak ko, kausap ko siya kanina at siya ang nagbukas ng gate sa akin,” the father said.
Police were still expected to arrive to conduct a formal investigation and confirm the circumstances surrounding the incident.
