DINALUPIHAN, Bataan, Feb. 12, 2026 — A 35-year-old man was arrested in Barangay Roosevelt, Dinalupihan after snatching a cellphone from a woman, an act he later admitted was motivated by his desire to have money for a Valentine’s Day date and to buy flowers for his girlfriend.

Police reports said the incident happened on February 9 when the victim was using her phone in public. The suspect suddenly grabbed the device, valued at more than ₱5,000, and attempted to flee. The woman immediately sought help from nearby residents, prompting a swift response from authorities who arrested the suspect shortly after the crime.

During questioning, the suspect confessed his unusual motive, telling investigators: “Ginawa ko po ito para may pang-date at pambili ng bulaklak para sa nobya ko.” Police said he intended to sell the stolen phone to fund his Valentine’s Day plans.

The victim managed to recover her cellphone, but despite regaining possession of the device, she remains determined to pursue a robbery complaint against the suspect. Authorities confirmed that charges are being prepared and the man will remain in detention while the case is processed.

Local officials and police emphasized that personal circumstances, even romantic intentions, do not excuse criminal behavior. The incident has sparked online reactions, with many netizens pointing out the irony of the suspect’s plan to celebrate Valentine’s Day now ending in jail.

This case highlights the pressures some individuals feel around holidays such as Valentine’s Day, where expectations of gifts and romantic gestures can sometimes lead to irrational or unlawful actions. Law enforcement reiterated its call for vigilance against petty crimes and assured residents that swift action will continue to be taken to protect communities.
