Two people were killed and four others injured in a shooting incident at the basketball court of Azure Residences in Parañaque City on Wednesday night, March 4, 2026. Police confirmed that the gunman, a 59-year-old unit owner, opened fire using a 9mm pistol, sparking panic among residents.
The Southern Police District reported that the victims were playing basketball when the suspect suddenly entered through the main gate of the court and began shooting. Witnesses said the attack was unprovoked, with the suspect descending from his condominium unit before opening fire.
Parañaque City Police Chief Col. Nicolas Piñon identified the gunman as a resident of Azure Residences in Barangay Marcelo Green. “Yung gunman ay residente ng isang unit doon sa residential building na yun… Isang unit owner po,” Piñon confirmed in a media interview.
The incident occurred at around 7:59 p.m., leaving two men dead on the spot and four others rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. Authorities recovered several spent shells from the crime scene, and investigators are now piecing together the motive behind the attack.
Residents expressed shock and fear over the violence, noting that the basketball court is a common recreational area for families and young people in the condominium complex. Police have since secured the area and assured the public that further measures will be taken to prevent similar incidents.
The suspect was immediately apprehended and is now in police custody. Charges of multiple counts of homicide and frustrated homicide are being prepared against him. Authorities are also conducting background checks to determine if the suspect had prior complaints or a history of violent behavior.
This tragic incident has reignited discussions on community safety and the responsibilities of condominium management in ensuring secure recreational spaces for residents. The investigation continues as families of the victims call for justice and stricter enforcement of safety protocols in residential complexes.
