Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines — A 20-year-old nursing student was arrested after allegedly killing his one-month-old daughter, whose body was discovered inside a bag at his boarding house in Barangay Cugman, police confirmed on Tuesday.  

Authorities said the suspect borrowed the infant from her mother in Balingasag, Misamis Oriental, claiming he wanted to introduce the child to his parents. However, the mother grew alarmed after losing contact with him and sought police assistance.  

Cagayan de Oro City Police Office spokesperson Emilita Simon explained, “Wala na dayon siya na-contact mao to nabalaka na ang inahan, mao nangayo na siya og assistance sa atong kapulisan. Didto nakita mao kini ang bata nga nakasulod sa usa ka color blue nga bag uban ang mga diaper ug didto nasuta nga patay na kini.” 

Investigators identified the suspect as Raffy Romatiguie, a first-year nursing student originally from Bukidnon. He is now detained at Police Station 10 in Cugman while authorities determine whether the baby’s death was intentional or accidental.  

Police confirmed that parricide charges are being prepared against the suspect, and the case has drawn widespread condemnation from the community, highlighting concerns about child safety and parental responsibility.
