Makati City, Philippines — Actress Salome Salvi and vlogger Brian Babilonia, better known as “Tiyo Bri,” are facing a criminal complaint filed before the Makati City Prosecutor’s Office by the Kapisanan ng Social Media Broadcasters ng Pilipinas Inc. (KSMBPI) over allegations of producing indecent content on social media.
The complaint was personally lodged by Dr. Michael Raymond Apacible Aragon, chairman of KSMBPI, who asserted that the issue goes beyond freedom of expression and directly concerns the welfare of young audiences. “Hindi ito simpleng isyu ng content o kalayaan sa pagpapahayag kundi usapin ng kapakanan ng kabataan,” Aragon declared in his sworn statement before Makati prosecutors.
The charges reportedly cite violations of Article 201 of the Revised Penal Code in relation to Section 6 of Republic Act 10175, also known as the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012. Authorities are now reviewing the evidence submitted to determine whether the case will proceed to trial.
Salome Salvi, known for her bold content and podcast projects, has previously defended her work against censorship attempts. In a past interview, she questioned the standards of morality being imposed, saying, “Parang napaisip tuloy kami, sino ba ang nagde-define kung ano ang immoral at moral? At para sa akin, personally, ang immoral para sa akin is to keep people dumb.”
Meanwhile, KSMBPI emphasized that the filing serves as a warning to influencers who prioritize viral trends over public decency. The organization has been vocal about its advocacy to regulate online content, particularly that deemed harmful to minors.
The case has sparked debate on the balance between creative freedom and social responsibility in the digital space, with many awaiting the prosecutor’s decision on whether formal charges will be pursued.
