Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa’s request to allow his family to use the Senate Mansion in Baguio City later this month has been denied by Senate officials, citing ongoing repairs at the facility.
The letter, dated March 12, was addressed to Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, but Senate Secretary Mark Llandro Mendoza confirmed that the request could not be granted.
Dela Rosa, who has been absent from Senate sessions since November 2025, asked permission for his family to stay at the Senate Mansion from March 26 to 29, coinciding with the Chief of Staff, Armed Forces of the Philippines (CSAFP) Cup 2026 at the Philippine Military Academy in Fort Del Pilar, Baguio. His letter explained that the mansion would be used solely to accommodate his family during the event.
Senate President Sotto confirmed receiving the request, describing it as a “privileged communication,” but clarified that the facility was unavailable due to repair works. Senate Secretary Mendoza reiterated that the mansion is currently under renovation, making it unsuitable for use.
The Senate Mansion traditionally serves as lodging for senators during official activities in Baguio City. Dela Rosa’s request drew criticism online, with some questioning why he sought special accommodation despite his prolonged absence from legislative duties.
Dela Rosa’s absence has already cost him nearly all of his committee posts, and his latest request has fueled further debate about accountability and privilege among lawmakers.
For now, the Senate Mansion will remain closed to non-official use until renovations are completed, and Dela Rosa’s family will need to make alternative arrangements for their stay in Baguio during the CSAFP Cup.
