Narra, Palawan — A family in Narra, Palawan, is demanding justice after a 31-year-old mother suffered severe complications following a medical procedure at a public hospital, which led to the removal of her uterus and damage to her intestines.
On May 28, 2025, Melvin Yayen rushed his wife, Madelyn Panao Yayen, to Narra Municipal Hospital after she experienced chills and difficulty breathing. Doctors suspected retained blood in her uterus and performed a uterine curettage, commonly known as “raspa.”
According to Yayen, his wife complained of extreme pain and difficulty moving after the procedure. Concerned, the family transferred her to a private hospital, where further examinations revealed a perforated uterus that had also affected her intestines. Surgeons were forced to remove her uterus and install a colostomy bag to manage the damage.
The family said the ordeal has left them with significant medical expenses and emotional distress, as Madelyn continues to recover from the complications. Yayen stressed that what was supposed to be a routine procedure has now permanently altered his wife’s life.
Local officials have acknowledged the family’s complaint. Narra Vice Mayor stated that the municipal government is prepared to review the case once formal documents are submitted, assuring that the matter will be investigated thoroughly.
The incident has sparked calls for accountability and stricter oversight in public hospitals, with advocates emphasizing the need for improved patient safety protocols and transparency in medical procedures.
For the Yayen family, the demand is clear: they want justice and accountability for what they believe was medical negligence that caused lasting harm to Madelyn. The case continues to draw attention as residents and health advocates urge authorities to act swiftly in addressing the complaint.
