PAGBILAO, Quezon — A tragic road accident claimed the life of a 22-year-old woman after the motorcycle she was riding collided with a parked six-wheeler dump truck along Tayabas-Pagbilao Road in Sitio Pag-asa, Brgy. Bukal, on the evening of March 24, 2026.

The victim, identified as Ethel, a live-in partner and online seller from Brgy. Bigo, was driving a Honda Click motorcycle (plate D408RR) without wearing a protective helmet. Preliminary police reports indicate that the motorcycle lacked proper registration documents.

The dump truck involved, an Isuzu six-wheeler (plate CCO3488), was driven by 48-year-old Renne, a resident of Brgy. Malusak, Atimonan. The driver was uninjured. Investigators learned that the truck had developed flat tires on its left rear wheels around 5:00 PM while en route to Tayabas City, carrying gravel and soil. By 9:30 PM, the parked truck became the site of the fatal collision.

Though hazard lights were on and an Early Warning Device (EWD) was placed near the truck, it was only two meters away and was ultimately crushed by the motorcycle. Limited visibility in the darkened area may have contributed to the accident, as the truck obstructed the roadway.

Authorities noted that the driver could be partly responsible for failing to relocate the truck to a safer position and for not providing sufficient warning to approaching vehicles. The victim sustained severe head and body injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The body has been transported to Funeraria Baracael in Sariaya for post-mortem examination, while police investigations continue and may result in an amicable settlement. This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding road safety, vehicle maintenance, and hazard protocols. How many lives might be spared if stricter rules and proper visibility measures were enforced on public roads?
