INFANTA, Quezon — The local government of Infanta responded swiftly to a fire that destroyed two homes in Purok Bungko, Barangay Banugao. Each affected family received an immediate financial assistance of ₱10,000, and relief goods were distributed to help address urgent needs.
Mayor L.A. Ruanto personally visited the families, accompanied by San Juan City Councilors James Yap and Paul Artadi, who were in town conducting a youth basketball clinic. The Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) also joined in delivering support to the fire victims.
In a public statement, Mayor Ruanto emphasized that the fire appeared to have been accidental, caused by children unaware of the dangers of their actions. He reminded parents to exercise caution and monitor their children closely, highlighting the need for collective vigilance to prevent similar incidents.
The mayor also noted that Infanta had already recorded two fire incidents this month: the house fire in Barangay Banugao and a large grass fire along Marilaque Road in Barangay Magsaysay. He reminded residents that March is Fire Prevention Month and urged strict adherence to safety measures, including avoiding open flames and unauthorized burning of grass or waste.
While immediate aid addresses urgent needs, the recurring fires underscore a broader question about fire safety awareness and prevention in communities. Beyond emergency response, how can local governments and citizens collaborate more effectively to prevent such destructive incidents and protect lives and property?
