MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) rescued four victims and arrested two suspects in an operation against online child sexual abuse, underscoring the government’s intensified crackdown on digital exploitation.

The victims, all minors, were taken into protective custody while the suspects face charges under the Anti-Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) law.

According to the PNP Women and Children Protection Center (WCPC), the rescue was carried out in coordination with international partners after authorities traced online activity linked to child exploitation. The suspects were caught in the act of producing and distributing exploitative content, leading to the immediate rescue of the victims.

Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., PNP Chief, commended the WCPC for its vigilance. “The security and protection of our women and youth cannot be ignored,” he said, emphasizing that the operation reflects the PNP’s commitment to safeguarding vulnerable groups from modern threats.

The victims are now under the care of social workers and rehabilitation programs, while authorities continue to investigate the suspects’ online networks. Officials confirmed that the arrests were part of a broader directive from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to prioritize public safety and strengthen police operations against cybercrime.

The PNP has warned that online child sexual abuse remains a growing problem in the Philippines, with syndicates exploiting digital platforms to target minors. International watchdogs have consistently flagged the country as a hotspot for online exploitation, prompting stronger cooperation between local law enforcement and global agencies.

This latest case highlights the urgent need for parents to monitor children’s online activities and for communities to remain vigilant. Authorities stressed that reporting suspicious online behavior is crucial to preventing further exploitation.

The arrests and rescues mark another step in the Philippines’ ongoing battle against online child sexual abuse, reinforcing the government’s stance that perpetrators will be pursued relentlessly and victims will be given protection and support.
