Two men were shot dead by a security guard in Barangay Calamba, Cebu City, at around 10 a.m. on Friday, March 27, after what police described as a long-standing grudge allegedly rooted in bullying.
The victims were identified as Vicente Jimuta, 42, and Rinato Villanezo, 52, both residents of the area. Initial police investigation revealed that the suspect, Joel, 48, had reportedly harbored resentment against the two men, claiming they had repeatedly bullied him. Authorities said the suspect eventually lost control of his anger, leading to the fatal shooting.
Christine, the live-in partner of Jimuta, denied the allegations of bullying against her partner. She described him as cheerful and responsible, especially in caring for their children.
“Masayahin at responsableng ama si Vicente,” she said, adding that she now faces a heavier burden as she has lost her partner in raising their family.
Christine also expressed frustration at some residents present during the incident, saying they chose to record videos for social media instead of immediately calling for an ambulance. She lamented that such actions may have cost precious time that could have helped save lives.
Police confirmed that Joel is now in custody and will face charges related to the shooting. The case has sparked discussions in the community about the dangers of unresolved conflicts and the need for responsible intervention when tensions escalate.
The tragedy underscores the devastating consequences of bullying and unchecked resentment, leaving families grieving and a community shaken by violence.
