APRIL 26, 2026 — The Edsa-Ortigas Interchange, closed since Friday after a bus fire, will reopen to light vehicles on Monday, April 27, 2026, following emergency repairs and safety checks by the DPWH. The MMDA will oversee traffic flow as retrofitting and repair works continue.

Metro Manila’s traffic lifeline at Edsa-Ortigas is set to breathe again. After a tense weekend closure triggered by a passenger bus fire on the southbound flyover last Friday evening, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) confirmed that the interchange will reopen to light vehicles only starting Monday, April 27. The agency spent Sunday clearing debris, reinstalling damaged safety devices, and conducting load tests to ensure the structure’s stability.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will manage traffic flow at the interchange, implementing rerouting for heavier vehicles while retrofitting and repair works continue. Structural engineers were deployed immediately after the fire to assess damage, and the DPWH stressed that limiting access to smaller vehicles is a precautionary measure to safeguard motorists.

The Edsa-Ortigas Interchange is one of Metro Manila’s busiest choke points, connecting thousands of daily travelers from Quezon City, Pasig, and Mandaluyong. The closure over the weekend forced drivers into longer detours, worsening congestion in nearby roads.

Now, with light vehicles allowed back, traffic flow is expected to ease, though buses and trucks will still need to find alternative routes.
