APRIL 26, 2026 — A 25-year-old man in Teresa, Rizal was arrested after stealing a motorcycle and then brazenly demanding money from its owner to return it. Police recovered all stolen items, including two mobile phones, and the suspect now faces charges of robbery and carnapping.

In Antipolo City, what started as a quiet Friday night turned into a shocking ordeal for one family. Around 11 p.m. on April 24, the victim parked his motorcycle outside their home in Barangay Dela Paz. By dawn, his brother discovered their door had been forced open. Two mobile phones and the motorcycle key were gone — and so was the motorcycle itself.

The twist came when the family received a message on Facebook Messenger. Using one of the stolen phones, the suspect — identified only as “Jim” — brazenly demanded money in exchange for returning the motorcycle. He even provided an e-wallet number, thinking he could cash in on his crime.

Instead, this reckless move became his downfall. Police traced the account to Teresa, Rizal, and quickly launched a follow-up operation. By Saturday morning, April 25, Jim was in custody, and the stolen motorcycle and phones were recovered.

This appears to be a growing trend — criminals exploiting digital platforms, like Messenger and e-wallets, to carry out their schemes. These days, technology is being twisted into tools for extortion.

The suspect’s brazenness — stealing, then demanding ransom — shows how emboldened criminals can become. But it also underscores the importance of swift police action. The Antipolo police’s quick response not only recovered the stolen items but also reassured the public that law enforcement can adapt to digital crime tactics.

“Jim’s” arrest may be a small victory, but it also raises a bigger question about how communities and authorities can stay ahead of criminals who are now mixing old-school robbery with modern digital extortion.

Can our law enforcement truly stay one step ahead of these crimes?
