May 2, 2026 — Thirteen areas across the country are expected to experience “danger level” heat index values today, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). The forecast warns of heat indices ranging from 42°C to 44°C, conditions that pose serious health risks, including heat cramps, exhaustion, and possible heat stroke.

Dagupan City in Pangasinan tops the list with a projected heat index of 44°C, while several areas, including Laoag City, MMSU Batac, Sinait, Bacnota, Aparri, and Virac, are forecast to reach 43°C. Other locations such as Tuguegarao City, ISU Echague, TAU Camiling, Sangley Point, Catarman, and Cotabato City are expected to hit 42°C.

PAGASA explained that the “danger level” classification applies when the heat index falls between 42°C and 51°C, a range where prolonged exposure can quickly lead to heat-related illnesses. The agency urged residents to avoid strenuous outdoor activities, stay hydrated, and wear light clothing to reduce risks.

Metro Manila is also bracing for extreme heat, with a forecast heat index of 40°C, placing it under the “extreme caution” category. In contrast, Benguet Radar in Tuba is expected to record the lowest heat index nationwide at 22°C.

Nationwide, 61 areas are under “extreme caution,” where heat cramps and exhaustion are possible. PAGASA emphasized that vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and outdoor workers should take extra precautions.

Weather conditions remain unstable, with easterlies bringing cloudy skies and scattered rains over Mindanao and Palawan, while isolated thunderstorms are expected in other parts of the country. The agency warned of potential flash floods and landslides in affected areas.

As temperatures soar, authorities continue to remind the public that vigilance and preventive measures are crucial to avoid the dangerous effects of extreme heat.
