MANILA — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and budget carrier Cebu Pacific (CEB) have issued a joint warning to the public against unauthorized sellers of airline tickets, following reports of fraudulent transactions involving stolen credit cards.
According to Cebu Pacific, scammers have been using fraudulent or stolen credit cards to book flights, which were then converted into Travel Funds and illegally resold through unofficial channels. The airline confirmed that bookings purchased through these schemes have been canceled by its partner banks.
In a statement, Cebu Pacific spokesperson Carmina Romero reminded passengers: “We strongly advise the public to book flights only through our official website, cebupacific.com, or through authorized booking partners. This is to ensure the safety and validity of their travel plans.”
The airline said it is working closely with the NBI to identify individuals behind the illegal reselling operations. Cebu Pacific is also coordinating with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) to strengthen consumer protection and prevent further fraudulent activity.
The NBI urged the public to be vigilant and avoid dealing with unauthorized sellers, stressing that victims of these schemes could face canceled flights and financial losses. Authorities emphasized that only bookings made through official channels are guaranteed valid.
Passengers affected by canceled bookings have been notified and advised to rebook their flights using authorized payment methods. Cebu Pacific reiterated that it will continue to enhance its security systems to safeguard customers against fraud.
The warning comes amid rising cases of online scams targeting travelers, highlighting the need for stricter enforcement and public awareness. Both the NBI and Cebu Pacific assured that investigations are ongoing to hold perpetrators accountable.
