A buy-bust operation in Cavite escalated into a high-speed chase and armed encounter, leaving one suspect dead after resisting arrest and engaging police in gunfire.
KAWIT, Cavite — January 27, 2026 — A drug suspect was killed Tuesday afternoon following a buy-bust operation in Bacoor City that turned into a dramatic pursuit across Cavite. Authorities identified the suspect only by his alias “Tol,” a 36-year-old man allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade.
According to reports from the Bacoor Component City Police Station, the operation began around 12:30 p.m. in Barangay Kaingin, Bacoor. Police operatives posed as buyers to entrap the suspect, but he quickly realized the presence of law enforcement and opened fire. He then fled aboard a vehicle, sparking a chase that extended to Kawit town.
During the pursuit, the suspect commandeered an unmarked Asian utility vehicle belonging to the police and rammed it against a Bacoor police mobile car. He also struck two motorcycles, a tricycle, and a sports utility vehicle, injuring several civilians who were immediately given first aid. The suspect repeatedly fired at pursuing officers, prompting them to retaliate.
Lt. Col. Alexie Desamito, chief of Bacoor police, explained the difficulty of the chase. “Tina-try na ipatabi pero ayaw daw po tumabi, instead pumutok po (raw) sa kanila,” he said, noting that the suspect refused to stop and instead shot at the operatives. The confrontation reached the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX) exit in Kawit, where the suspect was eventually neutralized.
Police confirmed that the suspect sustained fatal gunshot wounds during the exchange. His body was later recovered at the scene, while the injured motorists were treated and declared out of danger. Authorities also seized suspected illegal drugs from the earlier transaction, strengthening the case against the suspect.
The incident caused temporary traffic disruption along CAVITEX and nearby roads as law enforcers secured the area. Videos and photos shared on verified social media platforms showed the aftermath of the chase, including damaged vehicles and responding police units.
Local officials commended the quick response of the Bacoor police but reminded the public of the dangers posed by drug-related crimes. The Cavite Provincial Police Office reiterated its commitment to intensifying anti-drug operations while ensuring public safety.
The buy-bust operation highlights the continuing challenges faced by law enforcement in curbing illegal drugs in Cavite, a province often cited as a hotspot for narcotics activity. Authorities assured residents that investigations are ongoing to determine if the suspect was part of a larger network.
